Should Canon Have a Large Digicam Product Recall on Their Hands?

The idea of manufacturer defects is an interesting one. Should makers of the product be held responsible for any and all problems to a product after it's been sold to consumers and a far-ranging problem has been found? If the defect is minor, and has small influence on the operation of the product should they be forced to fix it?
